Berthillon is a probably the most famous ice cream place in all of Paris and some consider it the best ice cream in the world. Not only can you get their ice cream at their main shop on the Ile Saint-Louis but also at many cafés around the city, which is helpful when the craving for Berthillon strikes. They serve a variety of flavors of both glace and sorbet. Constantly trying new recipes, Berthillon has a selection of very unique flavors such as pain d’épices or reine claude (a type of plum) that you don’t find at most glaciers. Founded by two parisiennes, Mathilde and Constance Lorenzi, the idea for this trendy shop was simple: if the majority of the French like yogurt and eat it regularly, they will love Frozen Yogurt newyorkais! Grom is an Italian gelato company that opened a branch in Paris several years ago. They pride themselves on their use of fresh, seasonal and quality ingredients. So much so, in fact, that their menu changes each month. Though the classic gelato flavors such as chocolate, vanilla and coffee remain on the menu, they also offer fruit flavors based on the season as well a flavor of the month. The selection is simple but not boring and you can mix and match flavors to find your perfect combination. The portions are a small, but necessarily so because each flavor is so rich. Le Bac à Glaces was opened by Sylvain Yoëlin 1982 and sells all-natural, artisan ice creams and sorbets. You can choose to either sit down in the restaurant and have a café with your ice cream or you can order from the sidewalk counter. The restaurant has a very old-fashioned feel to it. Many of their fresh fruit sorbets have delicious pieces of fruit in them. Tucked behind the Bon Marché, it is the perfect place to go after an afternoon of shopping. Pascal le Glacier
Unlike the other locations on our list, Pascal le Glacier only sells their product in prepackaged tubs. You can buy anywhere from an individual pot to a 3/4 liter. Pascal Combette, the mind behind the store, prides himself on using Evian water, the highest quality creams, and the best of the seasonal fruits in his creations. Due to these quality ingredients, this ice cream is generally considered the main competition for Berthillon. During the summer months, the fruit sorbets are the treat to try.
