Outdoor film festivals have become all the rage for Parisian summers. What better way to enjoy the fabulous weather and classic cinema, than beneath a blanket of stars with friends and picnics?! Better yet, at the Festival Cinema en Plein Air, all the movies are free! Inspired by drive in movies, this summer festival is open to the public and showcases screenings in various locations.
With locations such as Saint Cloud, the terrace of Wanderlust, and the lawn at Villette, you’ll find a movie and venue sure to please everyone. Surrounded by themed gardens and sculptures at the Parc de la Villette, a giant screen is set up on the grass and awaits the many spectators who come to spend a relaxing, convivial and cultural evening there.
Generally based on a particular theme, movie watchers who have been before know that it’s a good idea to bring a lawn chair for the ultimate comfort. Screenings begin at nightfall (usually between 9:30–10:00 p.m.) and, as mentioned, picnics are encouraged. Chairs and blankets can be rented for a small fee. The lineup includes plenty of English language titles like Brokeback Mountain and Little Miss Sunshine. For more info you can consult the full program here.
