Living in Paris means having access to so many great things to do, including museums, restaurants and concerts. It can sometimes feel like I am constantly going, constantly surrounded by crowds of people. On top of that, the dreary winters can really bring me down. Sometimes I just need to take a break from it all and recharge. A day at the spa is the perfect way to do that.
The SFP team loves checking out the various spas around the city! L’échappée (which our friend Kasia, of Kasia Dietz Handbags, recently wrote a great blog post about) and Thémaé are our go-to places. I recently needed a relaxing escape from everyday life, so I booked an appointment at Thémaé. Located in the 1st arrondissement, right around the corner from the Louvre, the entrance is unassuming and tucked between several retail locations. Only people in the know could guess that a serene space lies within.
The name Thémaé refers to the Japanese tea ceremony and from the moment I walked into the spa, I became a participant in this tea-based experience. I was greeted with a cup of tea to enjoy until it was time for my appointment. Tea has been revered for centuries in Asia for its restorative powers and is the base for all of the products used by Thémaé.
I was then led into the sanctuary hidden from the outside world. The space is dark and calming, scented with soothing tea and flowers. Thémaé offers a variety of spa treatments, from ten different types of massages to facial treatments and hammams and shorter treatments for those with less time. I had booked one of their cermonies, which are combinations of different treatments into one longer ritual. For an hour and a half, I was pampered by a full massage, gommage and face mask, all based around their heavenly baume des 4 thés.
The time flew by as I got lost in a sea of relaxation. I forgot the worries of my week and even the sense of where I was. As I floated back out into the real world at the end of my appointment, I was encouraged to relax in the front of the spa with another cup of tea. I could have stayed there all day, sipping tea and meditating. But eventually it was time to go on with the rest of my day. If the weather continues to be so cold and gray, I think I will have to go back again soon!Thémaé Spa 20-22 rue Croix des Petits Champs
